Welcome to Dan the Merman Open Water Swim Coaching. I am Dan Coyle and I operate as an open water swim coach and wild swimming guide in the beautiful Argyll and The Isles area of Scotland. Based in the heart of Argyll in Cairnbaan, I work across this stunning and uniquely varied landscape at identified swimming locations from the sea lochs of Melfort and Craignish, east to the fresh water expanse of Loch Awe and across the great arm of the sea that is Loch Fyne, west to enchanting Knapdale and the sheltered sea loch bays of Sween and further south along the idyllic waters of the Kintyre coast. I am also available for seasonal and bespoke guided wild swimming adventures on the nearby majestic Hebridean islands of Mull, Jura, Islay and Gigha.

Bespoke open water coaching lessons are available for beginners, intermediate/improvers and advanced swimmers, adults and children. With a background as a PE teacher, SSTQ swim teacher and an STA Level 2 Open Water Swimming Coaching qualification, my approach is holistic and developmental.

Additionally, I am qualified in the Royal Lifesaving Society National Water Safety Management Programme. This means I am qualified to manage group safety and perform in-water rescue within a variety of open water environments, from the sea to inland lochs and rivers. Bespoke guided wild swimming adventures are available for individuals and small groups of 2-5 people.

Whether you're new to swimming in the outdoors, want to learn to maximise your time in wild cold water safely, explore picturesque swimming locations on the west coast with professional safety support, improve your stroke technique or develop your open water skills to take on more adventurous swims and train for a competitive event, I can help you to connect to nature and achieve your aspirations. Equally, if you're a non-swimmer (aspiring or current 'dipper') or are looking to explore the benefits of cold water therapy under qualified open water safety cover, I'd also love to hear from you. Immerse your senses.

Argyll is my home and I live at its heart in a wee village called Cairnbaan along the Crinan canal, otherwise known as "Scotland's prettiest short cut". I live amidst the scenic and rare ancient Atlantic woodland of Knapdale with Loch Fyne just to the south and the Sound of Jura just to the north. This means I care very much about the environment and community of this diverse landscape. Operating sustainably and in harmony with the rich, wild and unique biodiversity of Argyll is important to me.

I'm looking forward to empowering you to achieve your potential as an open water swimmer and explore the wild water of Argyll & the Isles!

Argyll. Into the wild. Into the water.
